5TH ANNUAL JUBILATION OF DANCING DIVAS – AN EXTRAVAGANT EVENING The auditorium at the Cambridge School was slowly filling up with adults adorning colorful dresses and children with even brighter dresses and their laughter adding to the excitement and fun that was in the atmosphere. The Dancing Divas children were already in the green room eagerly waiting for the grand show to begin with their colorful make up and brightly colored dresses designed specifically for the occasion by the guru herself – Guru Jyoti Patel – a household name among the many Indian cultural associations and Indian homes in Kuwait. The fast paced numbers from the Hindi films being played in the background added to the excitement that hung high in the air.

The Charge D Afairs of Indian Embassy in Kuwait who was the Chief Guest was already there on time so was the Guest of Honor Dr. SnehaLata Goyal – a long time patron and supporter of Dancing Divas. Then at 7:00PM it all happened all of a sudden – the bright red curtains parted and there emerged the opening compere of the show Mrs. Madhu who welcomed the audience amongst the thunderous applause from the audience. There was laughter and chirping all around as she welcomed the audience and set the tone of the evening. After the initial formalities of National Anthems being played with audience standing in rapt attention as respect to the two great nations and lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries the evening was declared open by the Chief Guest who said it is important for such cultural shows to take place at regular intervals to help bond among various Indians living in Kuwait. Mrs. SnehaLataGoyal said she was immensely pleased with the progress of Dancing Divas and she heartily congratulated Guru Jyoti Patel for her untiring efforts in pulling of such fantastic events. The Souvenir containing the various dance performances of Dancing Divas during its rich 5-year of existence and the ads of sponsors of the event was then released by the dignitaries.

The program started off with the a dance number Deva Shree Ganesha -song from HrithikRoshan starrer Hindi film Agneepath – performed by the Senior group Children of the Dancing Divas. The positive vibes was set for the evening with this enchanting dance. Then came one of highlights of the evening – the main compere of the show, Mr. Raja Sagoo of the famous reality show Comedy Circus fame. As he came on to the stage with a Salman Khan look alike appearance he took most of the audience by surprise. In his characteristic style he mimed the dialogues of Salman Khan – the famed dialogues of films Body Guard – Muj per Ek Ehsan Karna. And for the film Wanted,”Jab Mein commitment karthahoon tab meinkhudkinahi sunta”. The audience were sitting with laughter from then on as he entertained the audience with various Bollywood actors facial appearance and facial expressions. Just by flicking his hair style with his fingers and adorning various props like caps, sun glasses and just by changing his facial expressions he could appear as variety of actors – Devanand, Dilip Kumar, Raj Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Vinodkhanna, Jeevna, Shah Rukh Khan, Akhsay Kumar, AkshayKhanna, Rajnikanth etc.. -truly a volcano of talent this famous personality is. Then came the most awaited moment when Raja invited on to the stage the judge of the evening and the famous Hip-Hop, Slow Motion, Popping styles dancer RaghavJuyal(of Dance India Dance fame). He regaled the audience with his delicate moves to various tunes of Hindi film songs like Ishqwala Love and he was an instant hit among the audience especially the children. His young looks and his positive vibe immediately struck a chord with the audience and he surely showed what material a dedicated dancer is made of.

The performers of the Dancing Divas group from then on took the stage with gusto and energy they gained by the mere presence of Raja Sagoo and Raghav. There were group dances followed by solo performances which were judged by Raghav. The groups were divided into categories and they performed with grace and dignity much to the appreciation of the audience. The Sub juniors performed Jabse mere dilkouff from the film Teri merikahani in Western Twist dance style, Subha Hone De from the film DesiBoyz in Bollywood dance style, ChalonaNainon se from the film BolBachan in Folk Fusion style and then Jiya Re Jiya from the film Jab Tak Hein Jaan in Bollywood dance style.

The juniors performed Le Le Maja Le from the film Wanted in Spanish dance style, KatiyaKaroon and a Punjabisong from the film Roack Start in Punjabi folk dance style, The pre seniors performed Radha from the film Student of the Year in Indo Western Style, Angrezi beats from the film Cocktail in Punjabi Bollywood mix. The sub seniors performed In annkhonkiMasti from Umraojaan in Kathak + Western fusion; Disco deewane from Studet of the Year in Disco Hip Hop style. The seniors performed Deva Shree Ganesha from Agneeptah in Marathi folk style; On the Floor (J.Lo song), Hookah Bar and IshaShava as a fusion song in Funk dance and Free style; BalamPitchkari and Saakisaaki from YehJawaan Jai Deewani and Musafir in Bollywood style and Belly Dance. Then there was Mixed group performance for a theme song White Flag and The power in Contemporary Break, I Like it a song by Enrique Iglesias performed on skates. The skating dance is an attempt to imitate the ice skating dance form but performed on roller skaters. This was a risky and dangerous performance and was performed for the first time on stage that gave thrills to the audience.

The culmination of the dance performance came with a brilliant and dazzling show by all performers on the theme Incredible India showcasing various regional dance forms from different states of India. The highlight came when the line MaaTujhe Salaam came on and Raghav jumped on to the stage and in his characteristic slow moton style enacted it. This performance brought tears to the eyes of the audience and there was standing ovation given by the audience. The solo dance items were performed by the children in junior Group and senior group in between the dance numbers presented. These solo performances were judged and the prize winners were announced in the end by Raghav himself. The prize winners were:
